Re: MJ's stuff
Dual PDS Adapter? Me has jealous!
QS or MDD? Looks like immaculate plastics, display and CPU. NICE!

I think the QS looks better, and with a sonnet CPU upgrade it's pretty nippy

Re: MJ's stuff
Yeah, I'm just partial to the Quicksilver's... they've always just kind of struck me as a really nice looking machine... I like the simplicity of the external case design and the colors really do it for me. To each his own. Don't get me wrong, I do like the Graphite's as well, I just prefer these.
I was poking around on the machine and while it was appropriately cleaned out, I did acquire an iTunes library filled with Bob Marley and... Cypress Hill.
jt, here's another shot of that dual PDS adapter for the IIsi. One of the slots is filled with what could be a video card (but it only has a single RCA jack).

Re: MJ's stuff
videospigots and the like were popular, but I haven't seen one in 030pds form. That'd be kinda neat, even though I've never even used my nubus videospigot.

You're "Superscrew's" trunk looks familiar. What make and model is it really?
Nice find, by the way. Why would anyone want to dump something like this, if it works so well?

Re: MJ's stuff
It's a Forester 2.5i premium. It's my wife's ride, but I use it to haul stuff around in... I just find it incredibly uncomfortable, the single coat of paint seems to wipe right off and the plastics have been easily marred. She likes it though.
I have no idea why someone would toss this! I also saw what appeared to be a G5 in the recycling container, but it was way far back in the container. I may see if it's still around this weekend

Well, IIfx is a real cool guy... I didn't think I would ever actually own one of these, let alone one that is practically untouched. He tested it and provided me with all of the software I need to get started. A big THANKS to him

Fly, Rocket fly . . . up up to the sky! < indescribably horrible song, even for Disco, which needs to die stay dead! >
Congrats! Concur, very Just remember your Radius Rocket is incompatible with the IIsi.
edit: we need to find a source of cheap memory to max these puppies out. Thank heaven it's Bog Standard PC Memory.
3rd thought: run one of the DeclROM spelunking utilities on that SuperMac PDS filler, sounds like a VidCap Card? Makes sense, the IIsi was the first Mac with sound in capability, NuBus VidCap/SoundCap solutions had pricing levels pushing the boundary of the Ionosphere.

Thanks for the kind feedback. Enjoy the Rocket, its such a cool add-on to any Nubus mac. I got worried when the USPS mis-scanned it leaving VA as "available for pickup" just a few miles down the road from me, but it made it to you.
I actually never tried a Rocket in CPU accelerator mode (where the Rocket CPU replaces the System CPU) - if you do test that route do post the results. I always used RocketShare to run "Virtual Machines" albeit on real hardware...the cool factor of RocketShare is just...wow...multiple System 7 sessions in 1 box.
Someday I hope some programmer out there will unlock the power of the Photobooster DSP units - having dual (or quad in the case of the Nubus version) AT&T DSP's just sitting there idle is maddening. I know they can do more than Photoshop 3.0 - they could do graphics acceleration, MP3 decoding/encoding, video decode/encode, etc. But apparently Radius never opened up the API.

Re: MJ's stuff
This little IIcx that was the yellow, broken, runt of my collection just a month-ish ago is now... a Super Power
I got RocketShare installed last night. It's pretty funny seeing the 8MB IIcx as the boot machine with the 64MB Quadra as the symbiote.
And this morning I got RocketWare installed (after being duped by the similarly named RadiusWare).
Woosh!
This is where it stands at the moment... off to a Fair with the kids in a few minutes.

Interesting, did Digidesign open up the API(?) for their Motorola DSP implementation? The author of MPEGDEC used that Card/DSP combo, don't remember with how much success. Those conversations ar in the archives of the MLA.
The Rocket DSP Daughtercard is likely a no go, Rockets HATE sound. The 4 DSPs on my PhotoBooster or Thunder IV GX 1600 might be a different story. I've got the STORM PICTUREPRESS package. IIRC Redius bought STORM and re-branded that card as the PhotoBooster. Maybe STORM didn't play as close to the chest with their card's architecture/code? Dunno, I've got the shrink wrapped 1993(?) version disks/manual/card.
Popular Photography mentions JPEG compression and PhotoCD in relation to SuperMac/STORM. Maybe SuperMac bought STORM and Radius wound up with it as a bonus when the bought out SuperMac? That would make for two posible chinks in the API's armor.
Riiighhhtttttt? What's an API?

Re: MJ's stuff
I wasn't looking to acquire these three specfic machines, but my friend's Dad moved into assisted living about a year ago and she was having an estate sale this past weekend so she told me to take them. She wanted me to flat out recycle them, but I figured I'd clean them up first and at least see if they work or erase the drives. I was surprised the iMac G3 works, seeing as how it was in an attic for a long time. Booted right up and the speakers work fine as well. The white one is a Core Duo... first gen I guess.
The MacBook Pro is a 2010 with intermittent keyboard issues. Certain keys you have to hit a bunch of times to get the keystroke to register. No idea what the problem is there (spillage, who knows).

Ooh, Core Duo iMac. Is that a 20"? Screen issues?
And those iMacs are pretty good. The flyback may go but it's fixable.

Re: MJ's stuff
It's actually a 17" 1.83Ghz... it's pretty zippy but I attribute that to it running 10.4.11!! The screen appears to be just fine, but the cd/dvd drive is toast. I was thinking of wiping it and putting Leopard on it, but ran into that hurdle as well as the 512MB RAM, so I'll just leave well enough alone. I think there's directions somewhere to reset the admin password in single user mode but haven't gotten to it yet.
The iMac G3 is pretty fun to play around with. It's got 9.1 on it. No shrieking hard drive and the screen isn't fuzzy which are the issues I mostly ran into when using these, like what, 10 years ago?

Re: MJ's stuff
It's a nice colour, that G3 iMac. I have a strawberry with a Sonnet HARMONi. In 9.2.2 it's very zippy, and it's decent in 10.2 as long as I turn shadows off with Shadowkiller.

Re: MJ's stuff
So I dealt with the MacBook Pro. It haS turned out to work pretty well, aSide from the following keyS: TAB, 2, S, IncreaSe BrightneSS. With a USB keyboard the keyS work fine, So it lookS like it'S definitely the keyboard and not a logic board iSSue. The problem goeS away if I put on capS lock. So I can technically limp along and write every S capitalized. lofl
