IIsi PSU: Internal ATX PSU & Custom Adapter PCB

I dug up the iFrog pics from my backburnered SuperIIsi(c) project, thinking to revisit it fairly soon. I'm a bit ahead of myself here because the subject came as a general IIcx Form Factor Power Connector thread recently:

Macintosh IIsi/ci/cx PSU requirements

Anyway here are the IIsi/internal ATX conversion project's development drawings:
iisiatxsketch0.jpg
Original concept sketch, ISTR. At any rate it's the first of the series I posted and also the most complete  .  .  go figure. tongue

iisiatxsketch1.jpg
Sketch of actual IIsi components on inside of backplane and top of PCB  .  .  .
.  .  .  dunno how much I distorted it for "clarity" .  .  .

iisipsuadapterpcb02.jpg
This one needs to be rotated 180degrees to line up with the rest, but it shows the rough outline of the adapter PCB

iisiatxhack001.jpg
Scans of IIsi PSU sheet metal, harvested components and ATX PSU innards inverted therein  .  .  .
.  .  .  color coded boxes indicate height restrictions imposed by components and wiring runs, IIRC  .  .  .

.  .  .  print plan view and fold into box, it's a 2-D approximation of 3-D model of internal components  .  .  .
.  .  .  looking at the opposite side of print displayed inside box shows view from blank outside on opposite side  .  .  .

.  .  .  whatever, it's assembled in a manner that dovetails nicely between my ears  .  .  . YMMV roll

Not shown: cutout indicated on front of PSU sheet metal mates with ductwork channeling heated airflow to fan mounted underneath FDD, exiting through cutout in bottom of case. The PSU hack's as stealthy as reasonably possible within a hulking, Rocket Powered SE/30 predator.
___________________________________________________________

This is all electron plumbing to me, a schematic would make a lot more sense to a competent (sane) hacker, but this works for me. There's no indication of where any of the traces go at this point. Suffice it to say that what looks like stitchwork is a set of connected thru-holes facilitating cut and patch rework of pins and traces optimized for convenience.
___________________________________________________________

Much of this particular hack would be directly applicable to the rest of the IIcx Connector PSU Series  .  .  .  maybe? hmm

What about adapting a MicroATX PSU?

s-l1000.jpg

That'd fit the Two-Sigh better.

Re: IIsi PSU: Internal ATX PSU & Custom Adapter PCB

I've got one of those, the innards shown in the diagrams above are from one I have that's smaller yet  .  .  .
.  .  .  I  just I forgot to mention the Mini-Micro-ATX part. wink

STEALTH! cool

The problem is, some of those capacitors are NOT documented. I ran into this problem on my IIsi.

Re: IIsi PSU: Internal ATX PSU & Custom Adapter PCB

HEH! The one functional IIsi PSU I have is probably way far out on the ragged edge just trying to run the Rocket alone in there. The cooling budget is woefully inadequate.

The only thing the poor little IIsi PSU that couldn't can do at this point is to donate its sheet metal shell, connectors and the mains power panel on the back to the cause.

RIP, lil' POS. tongue

HP-Mini was supposed to be heading into a Duo before I dropped her. I've yet to do the autopsy. She'd make a great ZombieBook: ubuntu, straight up, hold the OSX. tongue
